XVS-6 gives premium products a skin pack on board. A tight second skin of film holds the product on a cardboard board, so it uses less rigid plastic than a tray, stands up on the shelf and keeps the product still in transit. It runs inline, as continuous production.

Ideal for: Fresh meat and protein, fish and seafood, artisanal cheese and specialty dairy, and premium ready-to-eat products.

Skin pack or tray seal

Both present product well, and they solve different problems. A tray seal with modified atmosphere keeps a gas headspace around the product. A skin pack has no headspace: the film is drawn down onto the product itself, which holds an uneven or tall piece in place, stops purge moving around the pack and lets the pack stand upright on a display. That is why skin packs are used for premium cuts, fish fillets and specialty cheese. If your product sits flat and your retailer wants a lidded tray, a tray sealer from the Apollo, Athena and Hera range is usually the simpler machine. Athena also seals trays under vacuum, but vacuum tray sealing is not skin packing.
